Fiat Teases 2019 124 Abarth With A New Growling Exhaust Clip

Aug. 31, 2018 6:40 PM ET by Jared Rosenholtz Teaser / 3 Comments And we thought the car sounded good before. The Fiat 124 Spider has been on sale now since 2016, and although the Mazda MX-5 on which it is based just went through a significant refresh, Fiat is still chugging along with the same car with only a few minor tweaks. As the 2018 models start to roll off dealer lots, the 2019 models are fast approaching. Fiat has teased its 2019 124 Abarth with a brief exhaust clip prior to the car's full reveal next week. Fiat Based on what we can glean from the teaser, Fiat is making a big stink about the car's new sound. The Teaser simply shows a few quick shots of the badges and exhausts, then a close up of the wheels as the car drives away. In the end, we see the tagline "Coming this fall... The new sound of the 2019 Fiat 124 Spider." We didn't notice any differences in any of the exterior details (including the wheels), so this 2019 update should simply focus on a new exhaust system. We already thought that the Abarth version of the 124 sounded fantastic, but this new system sounds especially mean. Even at idle you can hear it purring, which is a nice touch on an affordable sports car. We'd like to see Fiat implement some of the changes from the Miata, like new, higher redline, but it seems like the alterations to the 124 will be minimal for 2019. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles FCA A.J.
