This Is Our Best Look Yet At The Sleek Mercedes EQC

Aug. 10, 2018 4:10 PM ET by Martin Bigg Spy Shots / 7 Comments We also get a first look inside Mercedes' first all-electric SUV. In just over a month, Mercedes will finally show off its first ever electric SUV, the ECQ, to the world. The automaker has already treated us to official photos of the prototype ECQ undergoing hot weather testing, but these new snaps sent by our spy photographers provide our best look at Mercedes' new Jaguar I-Pace rival yet. Some of the camouflage has come off revealing the SUV's gaping grille, which has a similar shape to the Mercedes Concept EQ. We also get to see the smaller lower grille for the first time, as well and what looks like a production-ready rear bumper. In terms of proportions, the EQC looks like it will slot between the GLC and GLE. For the first time, we also get a good look at the EQC's hi-tech interior. Sections of the cabin are still covered up, but the exposed middle console looks similar to the one found in the 2019 GLC featuring a new multifunction touchpad. Elsewhere, a massive digital display for the gauge cluster and infotainment system dominates the dashboard. We still don't know the final specifications of the production Mercedes EQC, but rumors suggest there will be an electric motor mounted to each axle delivering a combined output of 400-430 hp and a range of around 310 miles to keep up with the competition. For comparison, the EQ Concept produced a combined 402 hp, while its 70-kilowatt-hour battery provided a range of 250 miles. Zero-62 mph was achieved in less than five seconds. The Mercedes EQC will be unveiled on September 4 in Stockholm. It will spearhead a new generation of EVs Mercedes is rolling out in the next few years to compete with Volkswagen's I.D. range, including an EQS sedan and EQA hatchback.
