Mustang Bullitt Steve McQueen Edition Revealed With 775 Horsepower

Fans of the 1968 film Bullitt will soon be able to channel their inner Steve McQueen, as the special edition 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt is nearly here. We've driven it and can confidently say it lives up to its name. In addition to the Dark Highland Green paint finish matching the original car Steve McQueen drove in the film's famous San Francisco chase scene, the Bullitt edition gains a 20-hp power boost over the standard Mustang GT, bringing the total output to a respectable 480 ponies. If, however, you crave even more power, the new Steve McQueen Edition is for you. Steeda Built as part of a collaboration between Steeda, Galpin Auto Sports and McQueen Racing, the Mustang Bullitt Steve McQueen Edition has been "purposely reengineered to deliver supreme performance, improved driving dynamics and … increased exclusiveness." In short, it offers more extensive upgrades than the Mustang Bullitt. Among the car's exterior enhancements include rear quarter window louvers, an aerodynamic front fascia enhancement package, and 20-inch wheels with Nitto NT555 G2 high-performance tires. There's also a rear badge featuring Steve McQueen's signature. Inside, Steeda has fitted the interior with special floor mats, illuminated door sill plates, and an individually numbered dashboard plaque. Under the hood is where you'll find the most significant change, however. Powering the Steve McQueen Edition is a 5.0-liter V8 engine equipped with a cold air intake and an optimized ECU. With these modifications, the V8 unit develops 500 hp, which is 20 hp more than the standard Mustang Bullitt. If you want even more power, an optional Whipple supercharger increases the output to a whopping 775 hp if you plan on doing lots of tire-torturing burnouts. Steve McQueen would be proud. The engine is connected to a six-speed manual transmission featuring a Tri-Ax short throw shifter and a McQueen Racing gear knob. To cope with that extra muscle, the suspension has been upgraded with sport springs, new sway bars and a K-member support brace, along with a bump steer kit, new shocks and struts as well as billet aluminum links. Production will be limited to 300 units per year with prices starting at $67,590 - nearly $21,000 more than the Mustang Bullitt. Steeda Steeda Join The Discussion
