Despite Trump's Tweet, Ford isn't planning to produce the Focus Active in America because there simply isn't a market for the niche model in the US. "It would not be profitable to build the Focus Active in the U.S. given an expected annual sales volume of fewer than 50,000 units and its competitive segment," Mike Levine, a spokesman for Ford, Tweeted in response to Trump, as reported by Automotive News. Ford Pulling the low-volume Focus Active is unlikely to put a huge dent in Ford's US sales, however, since the automaker sells 2.5 million vehicles a year Stateside. It does, however, mean that the Mustang will be the only passenger car in Ford's US lineup once the Focus, Fiesta, Fusion, and Taurus finish production in America. The new Focus will still go on sale in Europe though, which sadly means we'll be deprived of the new Focus ST and RS.

When Ford first announced plans to pull out of the passenger car market in the US by killing off sedans and small cars like the Fusion and Fiesta, both the Mustang and the Chinese-built Focus Active hatchback were spared. Since then, Ford announced that the Focus Active will be axed in the US due to President Donald Trump Administration's tariffs on Chinese imports. This decision incited Trump to suggest Ford build the small crossover in the US to avoid paying any import tariffs.
