Acting Legend Burt Reynolds Dies Aged 82 We' ll Miss You Bandit

Sep. 07, 2018 6:05 AM ET by John Tallodi / 16 Comments The bandit will be sorely missed. Movie star Burt Reynolds, 82, suffered a cardiac arrest at his estate in Florida and was taken to hospital on Thursday. According to a CNN report, he passed away surrounded by his family at the Jupiter Medical Center in Florida. Reynolds shot to fame thanks to his role in the critically acclaimed 1972 thriller, Deliverance, but his popularity among motoring fans stemmed from his leading roles in the Smokey and the Bandit and Cannonball Run series. The Pontiac Trans Am Reynold's character drove in Smokey and the Bandit was an integral part of the movie and gained a huge following. Back in 2016 Chevrolet recreated this iconic movie car by converting 77 fifth-gen Camaros to mimic the originals looks. They also featured a modified V8 with 840hp and Burt Reynold's signature on each of car produced. Those sold for $115,000 apiece, while one of the original cars used in the movie was auctioned off by the actor in 2015 for a cool $450,000. Universal Pictures Burt Reynolds went on to star in a brace of less well-received sequels to these classic car movies, but he also rose to fame again later in life in movies like the 1997 film Boogie Nights and made numerous appearances in films and tv shows in recent years. Reynolds had in the past expressed regret that he had turned down some huge roles such as Han Solo in Star Wars and James Bond but he maintained that he had lived his life to the fullest and experienced everything that he could. Now that is a life worth living. We will miss you, Bandit. Okay, fine. Photo credit Patrick George
