Hop Into 2019 With The Volkswagen Golf GTI Rabbit Edition

As the current-generation Volkswagen Golf lineup approaches the end of its production run, the automaker has rolled out a new special edition for the GTI hot hatch variant. According to Motor Authority, that 2019 special edition will be called the Rabbit Edition, a nameplate that dates back to when the first-generation hatchback arrived in North America. As of this writing, the automaker has yet to make an official announcement regarding pricing and time of availability, but Motor Authority has confirmed the 2019 GTI Rabbit Edition (the 2018 GTI is pictured here) will benefit from a number of upgrades. Among them are 18-inch gloss-black aluminum-alloy wheels, black spoiler, and black mirror caps. Volkswagen Just four exterior colors will be on offer: Cornflower Blue, Urano Grey, Pure White, and Deep Black. VW is also taking the opportunity to combine many of the GTI's most popular features into a single package to buyers' benefit. For example, the Rabbit Edition will offer as standard the automaker's keyless access system and LED headlights with adaptive headlights. To highlight the fact this is called the Rabbit Edition, there'll also be unique floor mats and seat tags with some sort of Rabbit theme/logo. Under the hood will be, of course, the familiar 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, good for 220 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, paired to either a six-speed manual or dual-clutch transmission. Chances are there will be no performance improvements. For those who recall, there was a very brief period when VW re-used the Rabbit name instead of Golf during the fifth-generation model's reign, but soon reverted back to Golf for the sixth- and seventh-generation models. The eighth-generation Golf is expected to debut sometime next year and will likely go on sale in 2020.
