The Nissan Juke May Not Stay Dead For Long

Aug. 28, 2018 6:10 PM ET by Jared Rosenholtz Industry News / 3 Comments A second generation is due in 2019. Much to our dismay, Nissan discontinued its funky Juke crossover in the United States. Though it isn't a direct replacement, the new Kicks will take over as Nissan's smallest crossover. Many people weren't fans of the Juke's radical styling but we admired Nissan for selling a 215 horsepower Nismo RS version with an available six-speed manual transmission. Even though the Juke is dead for the US market, Nissan continues to sell it in Europe. A second generation is on the way and Autocar has the details. Nissan The next generation Juke is being designed at Nissan's design center in London and is being readied for a motor show debut in the coming months. The car is expected to go on sale in 2019, likely as a 2020 model. Speaking to Autocar, Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan's global design boss, said the second-generation Juke "doesn't look too much like the last one. It doesn't look like IMx zero-emissions concept or new Leaf, either. It's an urban meteor with a nasty attitude." Nissan The Juke will likely be based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's V-platform, which underpins the Renault Clio and Nissan Micra. In Europe, the car will be powered by either an 898 cc three-cylinder or a 1,197 cc four-cylinder turbo engine found in the current Micra and Qashqai (the Rogue Sport in the US). Power will range from 89 to 114 hp, and a diesel with 109 hp will also be available. It doesn't sound like the new Juke will be coming back to the US, but we wouldn't mind having a sporty looking crossover with more power than the 125 hp Kicks. Nissan Nissan Nissan Nissan Nissan
