Alfa Romeo GTV Convertible Coming With 600 HP

The Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe is getting the axe in America after the current model 2018, but in its place will be the new flagship 8C supercar, which could be even more powerful than the Ferrari 812 Superfast. This isn't the only iconic model the Italian automaker is reviving, however, as the Alfa Romeo GTV Coupe is also making a comeback. Slated to arrive in 2021, the new GTV will essentially be a two-door coupe version of the Giulia Quadrifoglio. However, it may not only be available as a hard-top, as Car Magazine claims a GTV spider convertible will launch 18 months after the coupe in 2022. Alfa Romeo Alfa Romeo has previously considered making a convertible version of the Giulia, so the news doesn't come as a huge surprise. The last-generation GTV was also available as a coupe and spider, so it makes sense for that tradition to continue. Both cars will be positioned below the 8C and ride on the same platform as the Giulia sedan and Stelvio crossover. While the 8C will be produced in limited numbers, the GTV's production won't be restricted, which is good news for everyone. Alfa Romeo The GTV will arrive as a front-engined four-seater, making it Alfa Romeo's answer to the BMW 4 Series, Audi A5, and Mercedes C-Class. Being based on the Giulia Quadrifoglio, power will be provided by a 2.9-liter V6. In this case, however, the GTV will feature a hybrid powertrain. According to Car Magazine, the V6 will be tuned to deliver around 460 hp, while an electric motor will increase the output up to around 600 hp and offer a range of 30 miles when running in EV mode. While its predecessor was only available in front-wheel drive, the new GTV will be available in rear- or all-wheel drive. Whether the 8C will also lose its roof remains to be seen. Car Magazine recently revealed the mid-engined supercar could have around 800 hp on tap thanks to a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 and a Ferrari-sourced electric motor at the front axle.
