The Vector WX-8 Supercar Could Be America' s Answer To Ferrari And Lamborghini

Only 22 examples were made, each powered by a General Motors-based 6.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 that produced 625 horsepower and 631 pound-feet of torque. However, the US-based supercar manufacturer wants to make a 21st century comeback with the launch of the WX8 and become America's answer to Ferrari and Lamborghini. It was previewed by the WX-8 concept car at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show, but there hasn't been any news about the American hypercar ever since – until now. While the WX8 still hasn't entered production yet, Vector's website (which looks like it was designed in the year 2000) claims the car is still in development and makes some bold claims about the planned specifications. Two potential engines have been announced: an "electric/hybrid 7.0-liter small-block" V8 or a twin-turbo "10.0-liter big-block." It goes on to say the V8 is "integrated with the aerospace engineered chassis and jet fighter carbon-fiber fuselage," giving the WX8 a 500+ mile range and a top speed of over 300 mph. Power outputs listed on the specifications page range from 750 hp to 1,850 hp. To help fund the WX-8, Vector is selling two concept cars for the first time for a whopping $3.5 million. Listed on duPont Registry is two extremely rare WX-3 prototypes that were designed to succeed the original W8 but never entered production. Both the coupe and roadster prototypes are powered by a 7.0-liter, twin-turbo V8. Production of the WX-3 was scrapped when Indonesian company Megatech, which also briefly owned Lamborghini in the 1990s took over Vector in the 1990s. Vector's founder Gerald Wiegert eventually regained control of the company after a court battle. Whether the Vector WX-8 enters production remains to be seen, but this is still a rare opportunity to own the only WX-3 prototypes in the world.
