2020 Kia Soul Striptease Continues With A Frontal View

Nov. 18, 2018 7:00 AM ET by Caleb Miller Teaser / 4 Comments The Soul's second teaser of the week gives a glimpse of its new face ahead of its LA debut. Having been on sale since the 2014 model year, the funky Kia Soul is due for a makeover, especially considering its mid-life facelift consisted of only minor body trims changes, new headlights, and new paint colors. Luckily, the third generation Soul is not far off, and prototype mules have been spotted testing for some time now. After showing off a teaser of the new Soul's taillight just yesterday, Kia has followed it up with a new teaser of the Soul's piercing new headlight design. Set to debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month, the Soul will retain its boxy look, but with sharper details. The headlights appear narrower and flow more smoothly into the grille, with a chrome trim piece extending the line from the bottom edge of the light. The squinting look coupled with the clean creases in the bodywork give the Soul a more aggressive appearance, perhaps suggesting a slight shift away from the cutesy hamster-friendly image that the Soul has been peddling since its 2009 debut. However, the Soul will still feature the option for a two-tone paint job, with the teaser revealing a riveting red and white combination. Kia Kia The Soul is predicted to ride on same platform as the Hyundai Kona, and it's likely that we'll see the Kona's 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter inline fours borrowed for the Soul as well. Kia has also announced that there will be a turbocharged powertrain option as well as an electric version, possibly adopting the Kona Electric's mechanics. With the Los Angeles Auto Show opening on November 28, we are just under two weeks away from getting our first full look at the third iteration of the Kia Soul. Kia Motors America KIA Kia Kia
