CONFIRMED All-New Mazda3 Will Debut In LA With Revolutionary Engine

Nov. 08, 2018 3:15 PM ET by Martin Bigg Teaser / 11 Comments Both the sedan and hatchback will be shown off at LA later this month. Having been on sale since 2013, the current Mazda3 is long overdue an update. Luckily, we don't have to wait long for the compact sedan to be refreshed because the all-new fourth-generation Mazda3 will be unveiled this month. We've known this for a while, but the automaker has now officially confirmed the 2019 Mazda3 will make its world debut at the 2018 LA Auto Show, which opens its doors to the press on November 28. But we expect to get a sneak peek before that. Mazda mazda Mazda says the new 2019 model marks the beginning of a whole new generation of cars "that will deliver new dimensions of driving joy to customers around the world." It promises to be a true game changer as it will be the first Mazda that uses the company's new revolutionary Sparkless ignition engine. Instead of using spark plugs, Mazda's new SkyActiv-X uses compression to ignite the air-fuel mixture, which is 35 to 45 percent more efficient than a normal gas engine. Mazda says the new powertrain will "offer responsive control of vehicle speed in any driving situation." The 2.0-liter unit is expected to deliver around 190 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. Mazda Mazda Ahead of its debut, the automaker has released a teaser image of the new Mazda3 in both body styles, giving us a better look at the sedan's profile and the hatchback's rear. According to Mazda, the new compact car will adopt "a more mature interpretation of Kodo design that embodies the essence of Japanese aesthetics." The hatchback looks like it will share design cues with the stylish Kai Concept revealed at this year's Geneva Motor Show, while the sedan will adopt a more traditional look. Sales are likely to kick off in the first half of 2019.
