Watch Jeep Hilariously Mock Kia Sorento' s Off-Road Capabilities

Nov. 04, 2018 1:20 PM ET by Jay Traugott / 14 Comments It's important to know the difference between a crossover and an SUV. From the outside, a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Kia Sorento may look similar, but their guts are a different story. The differences between an SUV and a crossover are important to know, particularly if you happen to live in a region prone to nasty weather. Having all-wheel drive is certainly helpful, a feature most new crossovers offer, but it doesn't beat a proper 4WD system. And Jeep wants everyone to fully understand this important fact. Jeep just released this funny video that essentially mocks the supposed off-road "capabilities" of a Kia Sorento as a couple of stranded hamsters attempt to escape their current situation. Point being: the Kia ain't no Jeep Grand Cherokee, specifically the Trailhawk model. But why is Jeep specifically picking on the Sorento? Because last year at the LA Auto Show Kia revealed its latest Sorento and proudly claimed it was capable of completing the Hell's Revenge trail in Moab, Utah. Yes, the new Sorento can tackle that "six-and-a-half mile rock-crawling trek". Well, let's just say Jeep doesn't fully believe that, hence this latest commercial called "Halloween at Moab." But why use human-sized Hamsters? Because Kia has previously used hamsters in commercials for its Soul subcompact crossover. The hamsters' distress at being stranded and their attempts to modify the Sorento says it all. Of course, it's a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that offers the solution because "No modifications required." Jeep FCA FCA Jeep While a 2019 Kia Sorento mid-size SUV crossover with a V6 and AWD costs around $35,000, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk goes for about $10,000 more, assuming you don't tack on any additional packages. But the Trailhawk does come standard with skid plates, tow hooks, all-terrain tires, and the Quadra-trac II four-wheel drive system. But hey, the extra $10k could save your life one day. Who knows.
