Beautiful 1950s Maserati Reimagined For The Modern Age

Italian coachbuilder Ares Design is building a reputation for reimagining classic cars for the modern age. You may remember the Project Panther, a homage to the DeTomaso Pantera based on a Lamborghini Huracan. More recently, the GT4CLuss-based Project Pony revived the forgotten front-engined Ferrari 412 from the 1980s. Both cars look breathtakingly beautiful, but Ares Design's new project is on a different level. The coachbuilder's latest concept is heavily inspired by the Maserati A6G/2000 Spyder by Frua from the 1950s, arguably one of the most desirable Maseratis ever made. Dubbed the Project Wami, the concept will be constructed using a mix of hand-crafted aluminium and carbon fiber. While the exterior looks nearly identical to the 1950s original with the same design lines, headlights, side exhaust tips, and wire wheels, the interior has been modernized with high-quality metal, leather and aluminium materials. Even the original's classic white on black dials have been replicated. "When it comes to fruition Project Wami will be the finest bespoke roadster and a true testament to Ares Design's painstaking eye for detail," the tuner claims. Sadly, Ares Design hasn't provided any technical details as Project Wami is still at an early stage of development. We're very curious to know where the powertrain is being sourced from, as the coachbuilder often bases its projects on some of the most powerful supercars in the world. Strangely, the renders show three pedals in the footwell suggesting the car will have a manual transmission, yet there's no stick shift. Pricing details also haven't been released, but considering that an original A6G/2000 Spyder by Frua sold for $2.5 million at auction back in 2013, you can guarantee it will cost a small fortune.
