Watch The Fastest SUV In The World Go Nuts

Oct. 16, 2018 2:20 PM ET by Noah Joseph Tuning / 4 Comments That's what a thousand horsepower will do for ya. 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds. A quarter-mile in 9.66. It's got to be a hypercar, right? Or a drag racer, maybe? Guess again: it's Hennessey's heavily modified Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and it's the world's quickest SUV.
As it is, the JGC Trackhawk is no slouch, powered by FCA's 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 with 707 horsepower. But Hennessey has taken it even further. Much further: with the HPE1200 engine upgrade, the Texas tuner's take on the super-sport-ute kicks out a massive 1,003 horsepower and 892 lb-ft of torque. That's what it takes to get a Jeep accelerating as fast as a Dodge Demon or a Bugatti Chiron. Hennessey Performance Hennessey Performance Hennessey Performance To get there, Hennessey fitted a supercharger that, at 4.5 liters, is bigger than the engines on most cars. It also installed new pistons, rods, cylinder heads, camshaft, and long-tube stainless steel headers. And to get all that muscle down to the tarmac, it mounted the beast on a set of 20-inch Nitto drag radials, and even fitted a kill-switch for the all-wheel drive system so drivers can smoke those rear tires all day and night. "Our team really enjoys pushing the limits and discovering what's possible with the vehicles we build," said John Hennessey.
Hennessey Performance Hennessey Performance Hennessey Performance "Some may say that it's pointless to build an SUV quicker than nearly every supercar and hypercar on the market today. I say that is exactly the point. And because we can. Thankfully, we have many customers who also share our passion!" Want to put one in your driveway? Hennessey says it'll only make 24 examples, and charges $179,000 for each. That's a hefty premium over the $86k price tag on a new Trackhawk, but it may seem like a downright bargain when you're smoking hypercars down the strip or in between the lights.
