1 7 Million GM SUVs Investigated For Faulty Wipers

Back in 2016, General Motors issued a recall for 367,808 2013 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain SUVs in the US due to an issue with the windshield wipers. A ball joint in the wiper of affected vehicles could corrode, leading to the failure of both or one of the wipers. This obviously isn't ideal when driving in the rain since the reduced visibility could lead to an accident. At the time, GM had been notified of one accident and one injury linked to the recall. Chevrolet Chevrolet According to Reuters, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating whether to recall an additional 1.7 million vehicles after receiving 249 complaints from owners experiencing similar wiper issues in vehicles from five other model years. If the recall is expanded, it would include Equinox and Terrain SUVs from the 2010-2016 model years. Fortunately, no crashes or injuries linked to the issue have been reported since the last recall. GM is fully cooperating with the NHTSA review. Chevrolet GM says the 2013 GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox SUVs were recalled "because warranty data showed a higher-than-expected failure rate," and has continued to monitor field data on other model years of those vehicles. To fix the issue during the 2016 recall, GM said the front-wiper module would be replaced with a module that has a water deflector.
