Honda' s Latest Commercials Feature The Toys From Your Childhood

Nov. 14, 2018 5:50 PM ET by Jared Rosenholtz / 3 Comments The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles want you to buy a Honda Pilot. The holiday season is nearly upon on, which means automakers will be stepping up their commercial game to get shoppers into dealerships for some end-of-the-year sales. We have already seen some cool holiday car commercials this year, like a Dodge commercial depicting Santa's sleigh as a Challenger Hellcat Redeye. Audi has also had some clever holiday commercials in the past, including a race through a crowded mall parking lot and a Toy Story-inspired commercial about breaking down gender barriers. Now, it's Honda's turn to play the holiday nostalgia card with a new series of Happy Honda Days commercials, featuring popular toys from the '70s, '80s, and '90s. This round of commercials is being called Happy Honda Days 2.0, as a follow-up to the company's series of commercials in 2014 featuring Jem, GI Joe, Skeletor, the Magic 8-Ball, and Strawberry shortcake. These new ads feature appearances by Voltron, Care Bears, The Six Million Dollar Man, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In the series of ads, the classic toys describe the car to the viewer. The cars include the Clarity Plug-in Hybrid, CR-V, Accord, Pilot and Ridgeline. "The holidays are a special time filled with fun and nostalgic childhood memories and Honda decided to draw on this special feeling to create a fun holiday shopping campaign tied to some of millennial shoppers' favorite toys," said Susie Rossick, vice president of Honda automobile marketing. "With holiday advertising more noisy and cluttered than ever, we are continuing the Honda tradition of making the season unforgettable by starting 2019 with a brand new Honda vehicle."
We enjoyed watching all four of the TV spots, which were all filmed using stop motion animation. Honda even used the original voice actors to give a truly authentic feel. The campaign would be even better if each car came with the classic toy of the buyer's choice, but it was still fun to see some of our childhood toys return on screen, even to sell us a Honda.
