There seems to be a constant stream of bold claims pouring out of Tesla CEO, Elon Musk's, Twitter account. Just a few weeks ago, Musk promised that full self-driving capability for Tesla vehicles would be available in just six months. Full self-driving has been an available option for $3,000 in the past, though the company has recently taken it off the website to avoid customer confusion. Now, Musk has made yet another bold proclamation on Twitter, this time regarding an upgrade to Tesla's summon feature. The summon feature already allows owners to pull their car into a garage or parking spot remotely but this new upgrade will enable owners to do a lot more. Tesla Tesla In a series of Tweets, Musk said "Tesla advanced Summon ready in ~6 weeks! Just an over-the-air software upgrade, so will work on all cars made in past 2 years (Autopilot hardware V2+). Car will drive to your phone location & follow you like a pet if you hold down summon button on Tesla app. Also, you'll be able to drive it from your phone remotely like a big RC car if in line of sight." Theoretically, owners should be able to arrive at their destination, then tell the car to go look for a spot while they head inside. Then, when they emerge from their location, the car will be able to read parking signs and drive to where the owner is standing. Tesla Tesla Anyone who has ever gone out Christmas shopping at the mall is likely thrilled for this amazing feature. Finding a spot can be extremely tedious, so having the car do it by itself seems like a game-changing feature. It may take some time to get used to seeing a Tesla drive itself around a parking lot and we question whether there will be any legal restrictions with having a car park without a driver. Even with a human driver, it can sometimes be difficult to figure out exactly where parking is allowed, so we don't envy the early Tesla adopter who has their car towed when the car chooses an illegal parking spot. We're sure Tesla will iron out any issues pretty quickly but with a new system like this, problems are bound to arise. Tesla
