Chevy Will Let You Shove 755 Horsepower Wherever You Can Fit It

Basically, automakers will sell you one of their performance motors so you can drop it into whatever project car you're working on. We've recently seen Dodge release a 707 horsepower Hellcrate and Honda will even sell you a 306-hp Civic Type R engine for $6,500. Those both sound like good options, but few engines beat the GM LS motor when it comes to engine swaps. LS engines are affordable, easy to find, easy to fit, and easy to work on. Now, GM is taking it up a notch with a trio of new crate motors. Chevy will show off all three crate motors at the 2018 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, from October 30 to November 3. Rather than just show off the motors on stands, Chevy has installed each of them into a unique classic car build. The most interesting engine is the supercharged LT5, which is the same powerplant offered in the Corvette ZR1 where it produces 755 hp. The LT5 has been installed into a 1973 Chevelle Laguna and Chevy has even found a way to integrate the ZR1's carbon-fiber hood. The Chevelle also features a modified suspension, so it should be able to handle all of the extra grunt. The next crate engine is the ZZ6 EFI crate engine, otherwise known as the fuel injected 350 small block. This 420-hp motor will be ideal for most builds and has been installed in a 1967 C/10 pickup truck along with 20-inch wheels, and custom bumpers, tailgate, and interior. Finally, the L96 crate motor offers 360 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. Chevy decided to stick this engine in a 1978 K10 Silverado 4X4, which was given a frame-off restoration at General Motors' Milford Proving Ground.
