New Vanderhall Carmel Adds Roof Doors And 20 Horsepower

Oct. 16, 2018 10:00 PM ET by Jared Rosenholtz / 14 Comments This is the most luxurious autocycle on the market. If you like the idea of a motorcycle but aren't quite ready to give up the comfort and safety of a car, a Vanderhall autocycle could be for you. The Utah-based company builds three-wheeled vehicles that are extremely fun to drive. We've had the chance to test the Vanderhall Venice and the company has recently revealed a sportier one-seater version called the Venice Speedster. Now, Vanderhall has revealed the fifth model in its autocycle lineup. It's called the Carmel and it will be the most powerful and luxurious model in the Vanderhall range. The Carmel features a new 1.5-liter turbocharged aluminum-block engine tuned to produce 200 hp. Power still goes out to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission and if this new engine is anything like the previous 1.4-liter, it will sound incredible. You may not think the engine from a Chevy Sonic could sound good but Vanderhall tuned it to make all sorts of intoxicating turbo noises. Owners will no longer have to climb into the vehicle, which should make the Carmel more appealing for older customers. The doors are hinged in the back, meaning they open like a Rolls-Royce Ghost. Vanderhall says the Carmel also has more interior volume, making it the company's most luxurious model to date. 19-inch wheels with four-piston brakes are now standard and Vanderhall will offer an optional removable roof and air conditioning. Buyers will be able to choose from four colors, including Silver Vintage Metallic, Poseidon Blue Metallic, Ruby Metallic, and Pearl White. Pricing starts at $39,950, making it the most expensive model in the Vanderhall range with deliveries beginning in 2019. Vanderhall Motor Works Vanderhall Motor Works
