Lynk & Co Aims To Crack The US With Performance Models

It might seem like Lynk & Co is taking forever to get off the ground, but it has been selling cars in China since this summer, with plans to expand to Europe beginning in 2020 and North America in 2021. If all goes to plan, it should come packing some serious punch. Witness the birth of Lynk & Co's performance aspirations. Pictured here is a Link & Co 03 TCR race car prepped for the World Touring Car (WTCR) series by Cyan Racing. Cyan Racing has had a long history racing Volvos (L&C's sister brand under Geely), most recently winning the 2018 WTCC drivers' and manufacturers' titles with a Volvo S60 Polestar. Lynk Co Its 2019 entry will take the blocky little 03 Sedan and crank up its 2.0-liter four-cylinder to 350 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, six-speed sequential gearbox, adjustable dampers, fat 18x10-inch wheels, and massive 15-inch front brakes, weighing in at 2,789 pounds. But this is just the beginning of the collaboration between Cyan Racing and Lynk & Co. Next up, and much more interesting to non-racing drivers is the announcement of a joint performance-vehicle development program, starting with a 500-hp road car concept based on the Cyan Racing 03 TCR race car. Following Lynk & Co's incredibly creative naming strategy, the concept will bear the name Lynk & Co 03 Cyan. More interestingly, it will take lessons from Cyan Racing's campaigns and technical know-how to turn the 03 sedan into a Honda Civic Type R or Subaru WRX STI challenger. Lynk Co Christian Dahl, CEO of Cyan Racing, lays it out for us: "We will utilize our experience from past performance road car projects in combination with the vast data that we will gain from the racing programme through thousands and thousands of laps on racing circuits all over the world in extreme conditions." Cyan Racing is no stranger to building performance concepts, having previously paired up with Volvo for the Volvo C30 Concept in 2006 and Volvo S60 Concept. Cyan Racing was also instrumental in the spectacular rise of Volvo's Polestar performance brand, campaigning the S60 Polestar race car and feeding data and tuning that Polestar turned into the spectacular S60 and V60 Polestar twins. Now that Polestar has been split off to pursue electric performance, Cyan Racing will have a chance to make a name for itself on a larger stage with Lynk & Co as its racing arm and skunkworks division.
