Abarth 124 Spider Sets Guinness World Record

To demonstrate this fact, Alastair Moffat, a Master Instructor at Stunt Drive UK has set a new Guinness World Record in a completely standard model, achieving the 'fastest figure of eight, five times between two cars' in 45.66 seconds. The record was actually set back in July at the 2018 Chateau Impney Hill Climb, however, it has only now been ratified by the Guinness World Record adjudicators. Alastair performed the maneuver by sliding between two other 124 Abarth Spiders, doing so flawlessly five times. He also holds a number of other Guinness World Records including the tightest reverse parallel park and the tightest single parallel park. Regarding his latest record, he said, "It's wonderful to have set this record! Finding the right vehicle is increasingly important for these record attempts, so the lightweight, agility and rear wheel drive of the Abarth 124 spider made it the perfect choice." Gerry Southerington for Abarth UK commented, "We're delighted that Alastair chose the Abarth 124 Spider for this record attempt. Abarth have a long history of setting records in the past and it's great to have added a new one." Fiat The Abarth 124 Spider is available in the US with a 164 horsepower 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. It may be based on the Mazda MX-5 Miata but thanks to the stronger low-down torque delivery from its turbo engine and the unique suspension setup, it has its own distinct personality. While Abarth is not advocating hooning around on public roads, the fact that the record was set in a totally standard 124 Spider (only the ESP was turned off) shows just how dynamic and agile these little roadsters are, in the right hands of course.
