Rare Shelby Mustang GT350H Could Be The Mother Of All Barn Finds

We've seen some extraordinary barn finds over the years, but this is easily one of the most surprising discoveries we've seen in a while. Over on Barnfinds.com, a reader sent in photos of a rare Shelby Mustang GT350 he found parked in an old lady's garage. It's not just any GT350, it's a real 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350H "Rent-a-Racer" fastback originally built for Hertz Car rentals. It's been sat left to rust in the garage for the last 30 years, and as you can see in the photos, it's seen better days. The car appears to have been wrecked at some point in its life and it looks like someone started to restore it but never managed to finish the repair job. Shawn S / BarnFinds.com The color of the driver's door doesn't match the rest of the car, the right rear quarter panel window is missing, and some of the panels are still damaged. The GT350H was a special edition GT350 built for the Hertz rental company to use as fleet cars, with the aim of getting potential buyers of the regular GT350 behind the wheel to test it before purchasing one. It was finished in black with dual golden stripes and stripes on either side, the only color scheme available. Power came from a Shelby-built Cobra 289 cubic-inch V8 that produced 306 horsepower and 329 lb-ft. of torque, which was very impressive in 1966. Just over 1,000 examples were built, but the number of surviving examples today is anyone's guess. Hagerty estimates the average value for a genuine GT350H is around $143,000. It's a shame to see such a rare car left abandoned in such a sorry state. Let's hope this miraculous discovery will lead to it being restored back to its former glory.
