Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Set For Geneva 2019 Reveal

Oct. 18, 2018 1:20 PM ET by Jay Traugott Rumor / 2 Comments A new rumor claims this is happening. Bugatti is expanding in its own unique way. Instead of continuously developing a single model like the Veyron for a decade or so, it has already created the Divo to complement the Chiron. The current lineup sits at two models but could be increased to three, if a recent rumor claiming an SUV was in the works is to be believed. However, The Supercar Blog suggests an alternative third model will arrive in the shape of the Chiron Super Sport at Geneva next March. Sources reportedly told the publication Bugatti is planning an extreme version of the Chiron for a Swiss debut that's separate from the Divo, which some may have believed to be a more hardcore Chiron. Bugatti Bugatti The rumor further claims sketches of the new model were shown to VIP customers at the Divo's unveiling last summer at Chateau Saint-Jean, the home of Bugatti founder Ettore Bugatti. The car in question has since been described as "a beauty of speed" and a "Ground-to-ground Missile." Details are still a bit unclear at the moment, but it will reportedly be powered by the same 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W16 engine, which really should come as no surprise. However, Bugatti engineers were instructed to extract every bit of additional horsepower as possible for a new total output exceeding 1,500 hp. Like with the Divo, this new hardcore Chiron (it may not even be called Super Sport) will be built in extremely limited numbers. Think around 20 to 40 examples. A few of those VIP customers have supposedly already placed orders. So why the sudden expansion at Bugatti? One name: Stephan Winkelmann. Bugatti's new CEO knows a thing or two about expanding an exclusive brand while maintaining its ultra-elite status. Just look what he did at Lamborghini during his long tenure as its CEO. He briefly held the same position at Audi Sport before moving to Bugatti. The Chiron Sport, revealed last year at Geneva, was only the first vehicle of the Winkelmann era and already we can clearly see his influence. We'll keep you posted once we find out more.
