Does The C8 Corvette' s Reveal Date Have A Secret Meaning

Aside from containing the number '8' in the date, we've been unsure why Chevrolet chose July 18, 2019 as the reveal date for its all-new C8 Corvette. Taking place on a Thursday, we assumed it was a good time during the summer, just after the Fourth of July weekend holiday. This is vacation season and many automakers temporarily shut down some of their factories for re-tooling in preparation for the next model year. A mid-engined C8 Corvette smack dab in the middle of summer works well. Following its debut, it'll make the auto show rounds that'll kick off in early fall. But after watching this newly released C8 teaser video from Chevrolet we have a theory, perhaps a little wild, about the meaning of that July 18, 2019 date. Chevrolet Chevrolet The video shows some brief archive clips of past Corvettes going around race tracks along with an F-18 fighter jet and a Saturn V rocket blasting off to the moon. A series of dates are also shown, but it's the 07.18.19 that got us wondering: Is 07:18.19 the C8's Nurburgring lap time? Could Chevy have secretly recorded a lap time at the Green Hell and nobody noticed? We have seen final C8 prototypes testing there over the past several months. The fastest Corvette to lap the Ring is the current C7 Z06 with a time of 7:13.90. The next fastest Vette was the C6 ZR1 at 7:19.63, followed by the C6 Z06 at 7:22.68. The C8 that's expected to be revealed on 7.18.19 is likely powered by an upgraded version of the C7's 6.2-liter LT1 V8. Chevrolet MidEngineCorvetteForum And remember, that's only the "base" version. Electrification is expected in the years ahead. But anyway, for the new C8 to have a 7:18.19 from the get-go would be very impressive, to say the least. The updated 991 Porsche 911 GT3, the one you can still buy today, lapped the 'Ring in 7:18 exactly. Again, this is all a theory on our part and it'd be a hell of a thing to announce on the day a new era of the Corvette kicks off. We could be entirely wrong, yes.
