Modified Mercedes-AMG G63 Is For The Filthy Rich

While the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (née G-Wagen) is certainly an iconic vehicle, it is also one that splits opinions. Some love its boxy, militaristic vibes while others deride its squared-off styling and colossal stature as obnoxious. Even more controversial are the modified G-Classes, often AMG models, which are adored by the filthy rich and bashed by others for their gimmicky tacked-on wheel arches and hood vents. With the G-Class recently redesigned, tuners are hurrying to catch up, and today we present to you Lumma's latest kit for the new G-Class. Dubbed the CLR G770, the kit adds 40 millimeters (just over 1.5 inches) of width to the already chunky G-Class thanks to extended wheel arches. Housed inside these swollen arches are ginormous 24-inch alloys wrapped in 295- and 355-section rubber front/rear. The kit also adds angry new bumpers, a sharp front splitter, beefy side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a roof cover which houses four high-beam lights. However, the modifications are not just visual. Under the gaudy hood scoop lies an upgraded engine, gaining 65 hp and 74 lb-ft of torque over the normal G63 AMG, which had an already impressive 577 hp and 627 lb-ft. Lumma will also modify the G500 model, which uses a detuned version of the 4.0-liter V8 found in the AMG. For the G500 expect a boost of about 110 hp over the stock 477 hp. The G63 AMG is already a surprisingly quick vehicle for something so heavy and decidedly un-aerodynamic, and while Lumma hasn't provided numbers, we imagine the giant brick of a car will go even quicker after the tuners have done their work. In Europe, the CLR G770 kit starts at approximately €11,000, which is about $12,200 at the current exchange rate.
