This Is The World' s First Fully Electric Ford Bronco
Apr. 24, 2019 10:28 AM ET by Martin Bigg / 10 Comments Only 150 first edition examples are being made. Anticipation for the new Ford Bronco has sparked renewed interest in the original off-roader. As a result, we've seen several restomod companies revive the old Bronco for the 21st century. This one, however, is rather unique. Created by Zero Labs, what you're looking at here is the world's first fully electric classic Ford Bronco if you fancy some silent off-roading. The lack of grille is an obvious giveaway that this version doesn't have a conventional powertrain, but other than that, it's instantly recognizable as a classic Bronco. Zero Labs Zero Labs Zero Labs Zero Labs Based in California, Zero Labs aims to create electric versions of classic cars, and this is its first project. According to the company, the fully electric Bronco features 1,000 new parts. The most obvious change is, of course, the drivetrain. Zero Labs has replaced the Bronco's gasoline engine with a 70-kWh lithium-ion battery pack hooked up to a BorgWarner permanent magnet electric motor that produces 369 hp and delivers a 190-mile range - that's more than you get in a standard Nissan Leaf. Unusually, the electric restomod's motor is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, which is rare to find in an all-electric vehicle. Zero Labs Zero Labs Zero Labs starts with an original Bronco chassis, and then restores and rebuilds the off-roader, with many of the redesigned body panels made of carbon fiber. It fits Currie front and rear differentials, an Atlas two-speed transfer case, and an adjustable Fox coilover suspension, so its off-roading prowess isn't compromised. Six-piston Brembo brakes also provide more stopping power, and the electric Bronco has "part-time/full four-wheel drive," according to Zero Labs. Inside, Walnut and bamboo panels adorn the electric Bronco's handcrafted interior, along with leather and "vegan" material options. No pricing details have been revealed for the electric Bronco restomod but Zero Labs is currently accepting reservations. It certainly won't be cheap, as only 150 first edition examples are planned for production. Zero Labs hasn't said when production will start, but Ford is planning to launch the all-new combustion-powered Bronco in 2020. Zero Labs Zero Labs Zero Labs Join The Discussion
