Bugatti Divo Goes To The Hottest Place On Earth

Apr. 19, 2019 9:40 PM ET by Martin Bigg Supercars / 8 Comments Final testing of the Bugatti Divo is underway. It's been eight months since the extreme Bugatti Divo hypercar debuted at Pebble Beach. Since then, Bugatti has unveiled the one-off La Voiture Noire as the most expensive new car ever built, and speculation about the company's upcoming second model is mounting. Going back to the Divo, production is limited to only 40 examples. Despite its astronomical price tag of $5.8 million, Bugatti had no trouble selling every example to existing Bugatti customers. Just before deliveries start, Bugatti is subjecting the Divo to some extreme weather testing. Bugatti Bugatti Photos posted on Bugatti's Facebook page show development engineer Julia Lemke taking the Divo to extreme conditions in the Kalahari desert, driving at 155 mph for several hours in scorching temperatures exceeding 104 degrees Fahrenheit. That's one way to make sure the intercoolers are working properly. The all-black prototype also looks different to the model shown last year, which sported a unique two-tone finish with matte "Titanium Liquid Silver" applied to the top and a contrasting "Divo Racing Blue" highlighting the air inlets and outlets on the front, sides and rear. Bugatti Bugatti Bugatti Based on the Bugatti Chiron, the Divo features a more aggressive design as a homage to the company's early coachbuilding days. Massive air intakes improve airflow at the front and increase the car's aerodynamic efficiency, while a new adjustable rear spoiler provides greater downforce. Bugatti also added additional air inlets for brake cooling and new vertically oriented front lights with daytime running lights on the outer edge. The steering and suspension is more responsive, and new lightweight wheels and a carbon fiber intercooler have made the Divo 77 pounds lighter than the Chiron. Like the Chiron, the Divo is powered by a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 producing 1479 hp and 1180 lb-ft of torque, although top speed has been reduced from 261 mph to 236 mph.
