It's no secret the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is one of the fastest production SUVs you can buy right now. While it hasn't claimed any Nurburgring lap records, Jeep can now brag that it's the fastest SUV to ever drive on ice. Jeep brought the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk to southern Siberia to attend the annual Speed Days of the Baikal Ice Motor Sports Festival, where it set a new speed record. Jeep To attempt the record, Jeep says "unnecessary items were removed" to reduce weight, while the fuel level was checked to make sure it was sufficient enough to complete the high-speed run. According to Jeep, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk averaged an impressive speed of 160 mph over 0.62 miles with a rolling start and averaged in excess of 62 mph from a standing start. GPS trackers registered a maximum speed of 174 mph. That was enough to make the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk the new fastest SUV on ice. The record was set under rules of the FIA and confirmed by the Russian Automobile Federation. In sunlight, the surface of the lake is covered in a film of water, which reduces grip on the surface. Despite the conditions, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk demonstrated "excellent results" when braking thanks to its Brembo brake system, while the SUV's on-demand four-wheel-drive system provided plenty of traction. Jeep Jeep On the road, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk can top out at 180 mph thanks to its 710-hp, 6.2-liter V8 engine. That makes it one of the fastest production SUVs ever built, and is only beaten by the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga Speed, which can both achieve a top speed of around 190 mph. The outright record for the fastest vehicle driven on ice was achieved by a BMW M3 E30 fitted with a Toyota 2JZ engine producing 1,300 horsepower after hitting 2.15.5 mph during the Swedish Speed Week event in Arsunda, Sweden, a couple of months ago.
