Dodge Challenger R T Scat Pack 1320 Is Begging For Drag Action

Apr. 20, 2019 1:40 PM ET by Jay Traugott / 4 Comments Why should Demon owners have all the fun? The timing here is no coincidence. As customer deliveries are about to commence, Dodge has announced that its 2019 Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 has been approved to race in NHRA Stock and Super Stock competitions for the upcoming season. Powered by the 392 Hemi V8 with a total of 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque, the car's name comes from the quarter-mile distance of 1,320 feet. Dodge claims the showroom-stock Scat Pack 1320 is the fastest naturally aspirated, street-legal muscle car on sale today with a quarter-mile elapsed time of 11.70 seconds at 115 mph. That's 0.3 seconds less than standard Scat Pack's time. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, to compare, is powered by the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8. NHRA rules dictate that the Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 must feature a class weight break of 8.72 and carry a minimum weight of 3,400 pounds. Dodge In the Stock Eliminator Class, Dodge says the big coupe will be ready to roll in the B Stock category, but drivers can move up or down to the A and C categories if they want. The Super Stock category, however, will require competing in the SS/FA class. In other words, competitors can modify the NHRA minimum vehicle weight and enter into other categories. The Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320, not at all surprisingly, borrows many elements from the Demon and Hellcat Redeye, such as a standard single seat and the option to add a passenger and rear seats for only $1 each. The Demon's adaptive dampers, line lock, Transbrake, and Torque Reserve are also included here. The standard set of wheels, Nexen SUR4G Drag Spec 275/40R20s, were designed specifically for the car and are street-legal. Dodge Dodge Dodge Like the Demon, owners can drive to and from the drag strip without having to swap tires. Darn convenient. The sole gearbox will be the eight-speed automatic transmission. There are also new "Angry Bee" logo interpretations on the front fenders, illuminated Air Catcher headlamps, instrument panel, and startup splash screen in the gauge cluster. Owners are also entitled to a complimentary one-year membership in NHRA and the National Muscle Car Association. The added price for all of this awesomeness is $3,995 on top of the 2019 Challenger R/T Scat Pack's MSRP of $38,995. The total price, including a mandatory slushbox and destination, comes to $45,980.
