Attention Ferrari Aston Martin Is Coming For You

Aston Martin is busy preparing the finishing touches for its upcoming Valkyrie hypercar, which has already claimed the world record for the most powerful non-turbocharged production car engine. That engine is a 6.5-liter V12 with 1,000 hp and 545 lb-ft of torque developed by Cosworth. Thanks to a Rimac-sourced battery-electric system, total output will increase to 1,160 hp and 663 lb-ft. That V12 will rev to an insane 11,100 rpm. And like a Formula 1 car, the Valkyrie will gather energy from braking via a KERS-style boost system. It all sounds delightful, and according to The Supercar Blog, Aston Martin is also planning the so-called "Ultimate Valkyrie". New information about it has come to light today claiming it will, in fact, be sold in the US under the "Show and Display" rule of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Translation: it will be street-legal. Aston Martin This Ultimate Valkyrie will literally be the closest thing to a street-legal F1 car, perhaps even surpassing the also upcoming Mercedes-AMG One, itself having F1 origins. Not even does Ferrari have its own street-legal, F1-influenced hypercar (yet). The Ferrari FXX-K, based on the street-legal LaFerrari, is for the track only. Given what Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG will soon launch, Ferrari will have to respond somehow. As for the "Ultimate Valkyrie," details are limited at the moment, but sources claim only 10 examples are planned and, not surprisingly, all have been sold. Buyers couldn't just be any random rich guy, but rather they already had to purchase a track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro, which will supposedly carry around a $3.5 million price tag. How much for the Ultimate Valkyrie? About $5 million a pop. Aston Martin has not announced any performance specs but there's no reason to believe the Valkyrie – no matter which one – will be blisteringly fast. Shedding weight is also essential to making that possible. David King, AM's Vice President and Chief Operations Officer told us at Geneva back in March the Valkyrie's V12 actually weighs less than the AMG-sourced twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 used in the Vantage. Expect to see the Aston Martin Valkyrie debut later this year.
