Buy The Stunning One-Off 4C Coupe Alfa Romeo Will Never Build

Alfa Romeo ruled out a direct successor to its 4C coupe and convertible a few years ago, but we're hopeful a more powerful (and expensive) 8C is in the works. It's still a shame the 4C won't be around much longer. The coupe is already dead in North America, but the Spider remains on sale for the time being. However, not long after former Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne announced that no direct 4C successor was planned, UP Design teamed up with the Adler Group to create a coachbuilt project that could have been the 4C that'll never happen. And now it can be yours when it goes up for auction next month at RM Sotheby's Villa Erba event in Lake Como, Italy. The Mole Costruzione Artigianale 001 was built last year and shown recently at Geneva. Obviously, it's based on the 4C coupe and it's powered by the same 1.75-liter turbocharged inline-four with 237 hp. Power goes to the rear wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. But it's the exterior and interior where all of the changes took place. The exterior has a far more muscular appearance and the headlights are definitely similar to those found on the current Giulia sedan. The rear end has this wonderful Zagato-inspired look. Its stock wheels have been replaced by aftermarket units and there's now a quad exhaust instead of the original dual. It's absolutely stunning and there's not another one like it anywhere in the world. Potential buyers should also know that the donor 4C coupe already had around 25,000 miles on its odometer before its transformation, but that's a relatively small price to pay. There's nothing in the auction listing indicating a price or whether there's a reserve, but we highly suspect it'll end up selling for a lot more than the stock 4C's original $56,000 price tag.
