Vin Diesel Announces The Rock' s Replacement For Fast & Furious 9

Apr. 29, 2019 8:28 AM ET by Martin Bigg Movies & TV / 15 Comments Of course it had to be another former WWE wrestler. With Dwayne Johnson starring in the upcoming Fast & Furious spin-off movie "Hobbs & Shaw", the former wrestler probably won't be returning in Fast & Furious 9 next year. Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel also had a famously rocky relationship during the filming of Fate of the Furious. The solution? Hire another former WWE wrestler to fill the void. During an emotional video on Instagram, Vin Diesel announced that John Cena will be joining the cast in Fast & Furious 9. "Guys, as you know, I'm always thinking fast, and thinking about the responsibility of making something iconic and deserving of your loyalty," Diesel said in the video. "I know this sounds crazy, but every blue moon I feel like Pablo [Paul Walker] up there sends me someone. Another soldier in the fight for truth. Today, someone came by Toretto Gym that speaks to what Pablo would have brought." Diesel then turns the camera to reveal a smiling John Cena. It's looking likely, then, that Cena will replace The Rock in Fast & Furious 9, but it remains to be seen if he will be joining Dominic Toretto's crew or become a new villain. Cena's filmography may not be as prolific as Johnson's, but his acting career is gradually gaining momentum. His first major role was in 2006's The Marine. More recently, he starred as Agent Jack Burns in Bumblebee. He's also well known in the car community after being sued by Ford for breaching a contract by flipping his Ford GT for a profit and owns a massive collection of muscle cars and sports cars including a 2009 Corvette ZR1, 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, and a 1970 Buick GSX. Fast & Furious 9 is being directed by Justin Lin, who helmed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth films in the franchise. It was originally supposed to hit cinemas on April 19, 2019, but was delayed until April 10, 2020, due to the "Hobbs and Shaw" spinoff starring Johnson and Jason Statham.
