The New Tesla Roadster Sounds Too Good To Be True

It was in 2017 when Tesla made a shock reveal at an event originally deemed for its semi-truck unveiling: the all-new 2020 Roadster. The crowd in attendance went wild and the internet quickly exploded. And then Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed the Roadster's stunning specs: 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds, 0-100 mph in 4.2 seconds, and a top speed in excess of 250 mph. Range? Try 621 miles on a single charge, a figure that's literally unheard of today. But Musk has just reiterated that range during a recent Twitter exchange. Someone asked him whether the new Roadster will still achieve that specific range and Musk responded as follows: "Range will be above 1000km." Tesla Tesla Tesla Do the quick conversion and 1,000 km is exactly 621 miles. So, in other words, range is more than 621 miles. Sounds hard to believe but we don't think this is something Musk would lie about. Furthermore, Tesla has also never failed to deliver on its range claims. Production start dates and deadlines? Yes, but never range figures. It's probably best to view the second-gen Roadster as Tesla's new halo model. It'll feature the company's latest technologies that will, in all likelihood, make their way to mainstream future vehicles, specifically the next Model S. Remember, the Model S will soon have contenders to deal with, specifically the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT. Tesla Both are gunning for the Model S in big ways, and Musk is fully aware of that. The Roadster will be a demonstration of what his company is capable of and will, if all goes to plan, force competitors to work harder than ever. When in 2020 will the production-spec Roadster make its debut appearance? Tesla hasn't provided an exact date just yet, but we think the automaker should also focus on getting its Model Y into production first. A pickup truck is also expected in the very near future. But the Roadster, honestly, sounds almost too good to be true in nearly every way. We'll just have to wait and see. Tesla Tesla
