Apr. 27, 2019 3:10 PM ET by Martin Bigg / 5 Comments The new Sonata is just the start of Hyundai's bold new design direction. The 2020 Sonata marks a bold new era for Hyundai, as it's the first production car to adopt the automaker's striking Sensuous Sportiness design language. As a result, it's arguably one of the best-looking cars in its class. This is just the beginning, however, as Hyundai's design vice president, SangYup Lee, promises the automaker's best designs are yet to come.
SangYup Lee helped design the new Sonata and the small Venue crossover and is currently working on the next-generation Tucson. Before working at Hyundai, Lee was head of exterior and advanced design at Bentley. He also worked at General Motors and worked on the Camaro Concept Vehicle that inspired Bumblebee in the Transformers films. Hyundai Hyundai Hyundai According to Lee, the Tucson will have a more eye-catching design than its predecessor. "Stay tuned because this is only the beginning…the whole world will freak out over (next-generation Tucson)," he told MotorAuthority. Unfortunately, he didn't offer any specific details about what makes the new Tucson's design so unique. He did, however, hint that he wants each of the company's vehicles to have distinctive designs, and this is already evident when you look at the styling differences between the new Sonata and Venue. "I'll put it this way: Yes, there is a consistency, but you don't see instantly when we look at the car for the first time. When you start look [sic] closely, you discover, 'This is a Hyundai detail," Lee said about giving vehicles distinctive designs. Hyundai Unless Hyundai reveals a new concept car, we'll probably have to wait a long time to see the next-generation Tucson's bold new look. We haven't received any spy shots of test mules yet, which suggests the unveiling isn't going to happen any time soon. Hyundai refreshed the current Tucson for the 2019 model year, adding new front and rear design elements, a revamped interior, and new safety tech. Hyundai Hyundai
