Originally set to make its debut at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, the 2021 Audi A3 Sportback was revealed in March, offering a nice update over the previous model. Unfortunately, the Sportback model is not expected to be sold in the United States. Instead, we will receive a sedan version of the A3, which has already been visualized in renderings. But now, thanks to spy shots out of China, we don't need renderings to see what the next-generation A3 sedan will look like. Like the US market, China prefers sedans to hatchbacks, which is why the A3 sedan will be sold there instead of the Sportback. Looking at the trunk, this car wears an A3 L badge, meaning it is an extended wheelbase model. We don't expect much (if anything) to change from the European model, meaning the A3 will boast a sporty, futuristic cabin design. A center touchscreen controls infotainment duties while a large Virtual Cockpit Display will show the gauges and other information. CarBuzz CarBuzz Audi Audi Under the hood, we expect to see a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing around 245 horsepower. The A3 typically shares engines with the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the new eighth-generation model uses a turbo-four producing 245 hp. Front-wheel-drive should come on base models while Audi's Quattro AWD system will also be available. Audi recently hinted at the return of the manual transmission in a cryptic tweet and if any of the company's US cars were to get a stick shift, we'd bet on it being the A3. A manual seems unlikely but we expect most examples to ship with a seven-speed dual-clutch with more potent S3 and RS3 models to follow. Audi Audi
