Introducing The Hottest 992-Gen Porsche 911 Yet

Apr. 03, 2020 5:45 PM ET by Karl Furlong Design / 10 Comments Its designer was inspired by the '73 RSR 2.8. On Instagram, the #rearendchallenge has picked up some steam over the last week or so, with car fans posting images of the automotive behinds that they wouldn't mind gawking at for the entire stretch of Interstate 90. But while many of these posts have been about existing production models, some talented designers have used the opportunity to share their creative renderings. We might have just stumbled upon the best one yet. Digital artist Alan Derosier was nominated to come up with something for the #rearendchallenge, and his interpretation of a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 4.2 - based on the new Porsche 911 - is a stunner. It helps that the latest 992's rear end is actually noticeably different (in the context of Porsche design) to the 991, with a sleek lighting strip spanning the width of the back. Derosier builds on this design change. https://www.instagram.com/p/B-Ke9DoJZv7/ alan_derosier via Instagram Derosier was inspired by the 1973 911 Carrera RSR 2.8, a racing model based on the legendary 2.7 RS. The RSR 2.8 had enormous fender flares, wider Fuchs wheels, and a bigger engine with around 300 horsepower. A roll bar and safety harness formed part of the package, too, and the RSR went on to capture a victory at the 1973 edition of 24 Hours of Daytona. Basically, there are worse cars to inspire a modern rendering. Looking at the visuals of Derosier's modern Carrera RSR 4.2, it's painted in a shocking yellow shade and, like the original RSR, has a much broader body. He also added a ducktail spoiler just below the rear window, massive air vents that further emphasize the car's width, and a black diffuser between the tailpipes that are something between square and oval-shaped. The 4.2 badge has been subtly added to below the rear window. It looks fantastic. alan_derosier via Instagram alan_derosier via Instagram In his post, Derosier makes sure to mention that his 4.2 RSR is naturally aspirated and has a manual gearbox, which is exactly the setup we'd want in a 911 that looks like this. Comments on his post were overwhelmingly positive, from one user calling the design "absolutely breathtaking" to another describing it as "very tasteful" and "a genuinely great homage." Porsche has resurrected the RSR badge before, most recently with last year's RSR racer that, coincidentally, also sported a 4.2-liter boxer six. With the new 911 Turbo having been unveiled recently, it's just a matter of time before Porsche takes a trip down memory lane and releases a retro-inspired 992. So, how about it, Porsche?
