Here' s Proof The BMW M5 Is An Amazingly Safe Car

Everyone is probably getting a little stir crazy these days due to stay at home orders because of the coronavirus pandemic. Regular everyday life is just not the same when we're all stuck indoors. This also means driving is heavily limited too. There's simply nowhere to go, aside from the occasional food run. Assuming you're healthy, chances are you're not having as bad of a time as this BMW M5 owner. Well, they were a new M5 owner until this happened. Only 7 miles away from the BMW dealership, this brand new M5 had a very unfortunate run-in with a pole. Its owner was driving it home for the first (and only) time. Precise details about what happened are not available but we can come up with a few guesses. Another possibility comes from a supposed eye witness who claimed he saw the driver fly right by with a motorcycle next to him. Could this have been a street race gone terribly wrong? The most likely reason was the owner couldn't handle the 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque coming from the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. Even though power is directed to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, it's still possible for drivers to send 100 percent of that power to the rear wheels thanks to a switchable AWD system. We don't know whether the driver escaped without injury, but chances are they're still alive. The cabin is intact and the door remained closed, a testament to BMW's outstanding safety building technologies. The front end and engine, however, suffered direct impacts; this M5 is officially totaled.
