Customer deliveries for the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray have begun, allowing owners to finally get behind the wheel of Chevrolet's new mid-engine masterpiece and share their experiences online. While the world's first-ever 2020 Chevrolet Corvette will never be driven, this C8 Corvette is living a happier life. YouTuber Speed Phenom recently took deliver of their new and decided to put it through its paces around the Willow Springs racing circuit during a track day to see what it can do. Luckily for us, they recorded the entire run on video for our viewing pleasure. There's a minimal amount of dialogue too, allowing us to hear the C8 Corvette's 6.2-liter V8 roar in all its glory. Speed Phenom / YouTube Speed Phenom / YouTube To make the C8 Corvette more track-focused, the owner equipped the Z51 package, which adds stiffer suspension, Brembo brakes, a performance exhaust that adds an extra 5 hp, and a unique rear spoiler and front splitter among other upgrades. They also used Chevrolet's recommended track alignment to help reduce tire wear and understeer. A few minutes into the video, the driver sets his sights on a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. An intense battle ensues, but the C8 Corvette has no trouble keeping up and even passes the GT3 RS eventually. This perhaps isn't surprising since both cars have similar specifications: the C8 Corvette's 6.2-liter V8 packs 495 hp with the Z51 package, whereas the GT3 RS is equipped with a 4.0-liter flat-six producing 520 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque. Of course, this was a track day with traffic and strict rules, and not a race. Nevertheless, it once again shows that the C8 Corvette is a performance car bargain. As for how the C8 Corvette handles on the track, the YouTuber said it "felt very balanced," adding that they could carry more speed through slow corners than the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
