Elon Musk Hints At High-Performance Tesla Cybertruck Plaid

There's been a lot of talk about the Tesla Cybertruck's peculiar wedge-shaped design, but that shouldn't overshadow its impressive performance and capability. Exact power figures haven't been announced yet, but Tesla claims the range-topping Tri Motor will accelerate from 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds, which is impressive considering its size, and provide a driving range of over 500 miles on a single charge. It also has a 3,500-pound cargo capacity and can tow up to 14,000 pounds, making it a highly capable truck. Speaking on Twitter, Musk revealed he will be driving a Plaid Cybertruck for personal use. This is the first time a Plaid version of the Cybertruck has been officially acknowledged by Elon Musk. What isn't clear, however, is if the Cybertruck Tri Motor's claimed 0-62 mph time is standard or achieved using a dedicated Maximum Plaid mode. If it's the standard acceleration time, the Plaid version could potentially have a 0-62 mph time of under 2.9 seconds. For comparison, the Ford F-150 Raptor will do the same sprint in around 5.5 seconds. Prototypes of the Model S Plaid have already been tested at the Nurburgring, one of which reportedly beat the Porsche Taycan's Nurburgring lap time by nearly 30 seconds. Since it was unveiled last November, the Cybertruck has been a monumental success for Tesla, despite its divisive design. Last month, Tesla confirmed it has secured 622,000 preorders for the Cybertruck, which is impressive considering the final design hasn't been revealed yet. 42 percent of these preorders were for the range-topping Tri Motor Cybertruck that starts at $69,900, while the Dual Motor model makes up nearly 50 percent of preorders.
