Chevrolet claims the 2020 Corvette will do the 0-62 mph sprint in 2.9 seconds. But YouTuber Mike Davenport (aka Chevy Dude) wanted to put Chevrolet's claims to the test, and it turns out its estimates were conservative. Chevy Dude / YouTube Chevy Dude / YouTube With the Z51 package installed, the C8 Corvette's 6.2-liter V8 produces 495 horsepower. Using a stock 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Davenport decided to test the car's launch control system on a private stretch of road. Skip to around 14 minutes into the video, and you can see the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette hit 0-62 mph in just 2.7 seconds according to the car's on-board data recorder, much to Davenport's surprise. While the car is stock, it was equipped with some optional extras to help it achieve this. For $5,000, the Z51 Package adds an electronic limited-slip differential to improve acceleration, as well as grippy Michelin summer tires, better engine cooling, and a unique rear spoiler and front splitter to enhance the aerodynamics. Chevy Dude / YouTube Chevrolet It also adds performance suspension, a performance exhaust, and Brembo brakes. The only downside is that the Z51 Package reduces the C8 Corvette's top speed from 194 mph to 184 mph. But if quicker acceleration is a priority, the Z51 Package is an essential upgrade. No doubt the sunny weather and excellent grip levels also influenced this performance run, but it's still impressive to see a stock C8 Corvette accelerate faster than Chevrolet claims. Just wait until the more powerful next-generation Corvette Z06 arrives. Chevrolet Chevrolet Chevrolet
