The return of the Hummer was officially teased in a Superbowl earlier this year, with a reveal date penned for May 20. But with the coronavirus pandemic shutting down production at General Motors, a delay seemed inevitable. And now our fears have been confirmed because GMC has announced the reveal event has been delayed indefinitely. CarBuzz originally reported that the upcoming Hummer EV reveal would be postponed two weeks before official confirmation. "While we cannot wait to show the GMC Hummer EV to the world, we will reschedule the May 20 reveal date," GMC said in a statement. "In the meantime, the team's development work continues on track and undeterred. We invite all to stay tuned for more stories on this super truck's incredible capability leading up to its official debut." GMC GMC A revised debut date hasn't been announced, but the electric Hummer will hopefully still debut later this year. It's not all bad news, however. Originally, the GMC Hummer was slated to arrive in US dealers in late 2021 and go on sale the 2022 model year to compete with the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1S. Despite the delay, these plans don't appear to have changed as a new teaser video released by GMC coinciding with the announcement confirms the GMC Hummer will still be available in fall 2021. Hummer Hummer The short teaser video shows a CGI simulation of the GMC Hummer driving on a forest road, but the overhead view prevents us from seeing the design details. However, the Hummer shown in the video appears to have a four-door body style and a glass roof, supporting rumors that it will be offered with a removable targa top. GMC's reborn electric Hummer will be offered with up to three electric motors, just like the Tesla Cybertruck. In its most powerful configuration, the electric powertrain will produce 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque, enabling the electric pickup truck to accelerate from 0-62 mph in three seconds - that's faster than a Ferrari SF90 Stradale.
