A Used Jaguar F-Pace Is A Stunning Luxury SUV Bargain
May. 10, 2020 8:50 AM ET by Jared Rosenholtz Smart Buy / 7 Comments It now costs less than a new Toyota RAV4. Building an SUV was the smartest decision Jaguar has ever made. Not long after its introduction, the Jaguar F-Pace became the company's best-selling model by a wide margin. In fact, the F-Pace accounted for more than 15,000 of the company's 31,051 sales in the United States for 2019, meaning it nearly outsold the rest of the Jaguar lineup combined. The F-Pace has been modestly updated since its arrival matched by incremental price increases. A brand-new 2020 Jaguar F-Pace starts at $45,200 but if you are willing to shop for a used one, there are some fantastic deals to be found. Jaguar Jaguar Jaguar Jaguar Why You Should Buy One
Whereas Land Rover always builds its cars to be capable off-road (a feature few buyers will ever utilize), Jaguar designed the F-Pace to be a driver's SUV. It features a very distinct design language and we'd even go so far to say it looks like an F-Type grew up to become a crossover. Few SUVs, even ones costing well over six figures, turn heads like an F-Pace in a bold color. If you park one of these on your driveway, even if it is a used example, your neighbors will assume you were just promoted at work. Jaguar Jaguar Jaguar The Price
Having arrived back in 2017, the used F-Pace has had plenty of time to depreciate. The least expensive early examples can now be found starting between $20,000 to $25,000 with anywhere from 50,000 to 80,000 miles on their odometers. These being highly depreciated luxury cars, we always recommend trying to find one with a certified pre-owned warranty. Here, the F-Pace still remains a bargain. We found several CPO examples starting around $28,000 with Jaguar's seven-year/100,000-mile warranty starting from the in-service date. Jaguar Jaguar Jaguar Jaguar The Performance
The F-Pace has been available with a slew of different engines but there are two in the early examples that we recommend. Before the introduction of a turbocharged four-cylinder base engine, the entry-level engine in the F-Pace was the 35t, a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 producing 340 horsepower. There was also a more powerful version of this engine with 380 hp. The former could go from 0-60 mph in around 5.8 seconds while the latter needed just 5.4 seconds to hit 60 mph. Jaguar also offered a frugal 20d model, powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine. It produced just 180 hp with 318 lb-ft of torque, which could hit 60 mph in around 8.2 seconds. Both variants sent power out to all-wheel-drive through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Jaguar's cabins aren't flashy but they do feel modern. Base F-Pace models feature an eight-inch touchscreen but nicer examples get a larger 10.2-inch unit. With a digital gauge cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and plenty of available safety features, the F-Pace is not an outdated car by any stretch. There may be better interiors than this available but for less than $30,000 with a CPO warranty, it's more than adequate. Jaguar Jaguar Jaguar Jaguar The Practicality
Despite being a beautiful luxury SUV with great driving dynamics, the F-Pace doesn't sacrifice much in practicality. It has plenty of space for five passengers with 37.2 inches of legroom in the second row. In the trunk, the F-Pace can house 33.5 cubic feet of stuff with room for 63.5 cubic feet if you fold down the rear seats. 35t models are not highly efficient with EPA ratings of 18/23 mpg city/highway but the 20d model is a fuel-sipper with ratings of 26/33 mpg city/highway. Jaguar Jaguar Verdict
The compact luxury SUV segment is a hotly contested one but if we had to base the buying decision on styling alone, the Jaguar F-Pace would be the clear victor. At more than $45,000 for a brand-new model, the F-Pace doesn't represent the best value in the compact segment but if you can nab a CPO example for less than $30,000, we think it is a bargain. For less than the price of a well-optioned RAV4, you will be getting one of the prettiest, best-driving SUVs on the market today with a strong warranty. Jaguar Jaguar Join The Discussion
