The Flat-Six Song Of The Next-Generation 911 GT3 Sounds Like A Racecar

The next-generation Porsche 911 GT3 has already been spotted in spy photos several times, even make a cameo in the background of the company's Super Bowl commercial. In the most recent spy shots, we have seen the standard GT3 wearing a massive rear wing while a GT3 Touring model has also been spotted using an electric rear spoiler. These spy shots have been quite revealing but there is one detail you can't get from a photo: the exhaust note. All signs point towards the 992 GT3 using a modified version of Porsche's 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six producing around 550 horsepower, up from 500 hp in the 991.2 generation. As with the last-generation car, we expect this normally aspirated engine to sound fantastic. And in a recently published spy video, we can now confirm that for ourselves. Be sure to turn your volume up. 19Bozzy92 / YouTube 19Bozzy92 / YouTube Even though the video was published recently, the footage comes from back in 2018 during early development at the Monza Circuit in Italy, hence why these prototypes look a bit different than the most recent spy shots. In the video, we see both the standard GT3 with a massive rear wing as well as the GT3 Touring with a retractible spoiler. Both cars clearly give off a turbo-free exhaust note that can clearly be heard long after they are out of sight. 19Bozzy92 / YouTube 19Bozzy92 / YouTube In most of the footage, we detected lightning-fast shifts that could only be delivered by Porsche's PDK transmission but at a few points, we may have detected slower shifts, likely emitted by a test mule with a manual transmission. Porsche was expected to reveal the new GT3 later in 2020 but with the uncertainty of the coronavirus situation, a reveal date is anyone's guess.
