Fake Dodge Charger Daytona Is Really A Challenger

May. 09, 2020 7:00 PM ET by Jay Traugott Muscle Cars / 19 Comments And you can buy it. Some Dodge and Mopar fans might find this offensive. Others will see it as just plain cool. Whatever your take on the matter, this one-off 2013 Dodge Challenger R/T-turned Charger Daytona tribute car will certainly turn heads everywhere it goes. And now you can place a bid to be its next owner on Barrett-Jackson's online auction. Aside from the obvious exterior modifications, this thing also includes a custom white leather interior with red trim to match the exterior colors, 'Daytona' embroidery on the headrests, a custom pistol-grip shifter, sunroof, power seats, a seven-speaker stereo system, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen. The interior design is definitely a bit dated, but that's because this example is prior to the 2015 facelift when a significantly improved interior arrived. Barrett-Jackson Barrett-Jackson Barrett-Jackson Under the hood lies the familiar 5.7-liter Hemi V8 totaling 372 horsepower, paired to a five-speed slushbox. Riding on a set of 20-inch wheels, it has a total of just 1,867 miles. A closer examination at some of the photos shows some wear and tear but nothing too severe. The main showcase is clearly that massive 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona-inspired stabilizer rear wing and modified front end. The '69 Charger Daytona holds a special place in many gearheads' hearts because it was the first car in NASCAR history to break the 200 mph mark on March 24, 1970. Barrett-Jackson Barrett-Jackson Barrett-Jackson Today, a real '69 Charger Daytona could likely sell for close to $1 million, if not more, a far cry from its original sticker price of $5,903. Then again, only 503 examples were built. It was replaced the following year by the equally coveted Plymouth Superbird. As of this writing, there doesn't appear to be any bids and the reserve price is not listed. It's definitely an interesting choice to drive around town in and will definitely sell for A LOT less than $1 million. But is it really worth buying instead of a brand new Dodge Challenger or Charger? Someone out there probably thinks so.
