Dodge Challenger Hellcat Driver Gets What He Deserves

Apr. 19, 2020 4:35 PM ET by Jay Traugott Muscle Cars / 29 Comments Speeding is always stupid. Just ask this guy. Just because you're the owner of a fast car doesn't give you the right to drive it to the limit on public roads. Save it for a track day, right? Well, that'd be the responsible thing to do, but not every driver is responsible. Just ask the owner of this Dodge Challenger Hellcat. A Facebook post from the Ontario Provincial Police is claiming one of its officers spotted this Hellcat driver early Saturday morning on a local highway going 168 mph in a 62 mph zone. Yes, that's more than 100 mph over the legal speed limit. Apparently this guy seems to think that with nearly everyone on lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic that public highways can suddenly become the Autobahn. Either he forgot he wasn't in Germany or he was being outright irresponsible. We'll go with the latter. But fate quickly caught up with him. Nobody was hurt and, amazingly, the Challenger didn't sustain any serious damage. As for its driver, he was charged with stunts, careless driving, and driving with cannabis in his possession. He also lost his license for seven days and the Challenger was impounded. All in all, the punishment doesn't seem particularly harsh given what could have happened. Imagine blowing a tire at almost 170 mph; it can be so easy to completely lose control and veer off the road and crash into something or someone. It'll now be up to the court to decide his fate on those charges. Given the fact the driver clearly took advantage of nearly empty roads in the middle of the night at a time when the world is being asked to stay at home to help prevent the spread of a deadly pandemic, he should face an appropriate punishment. This could have ended in a far worse way. FCA FCA FCA Source Credits: Facebook
