We Finally Have Proof The Hot Acura TLX Type S Is Happening

Having been on sale for six years, the Acura TLX is long overdue a replacement. Fortunately, an all-new version of Acura's luxury sedan is expected to arrive in the 2021 model year with a bold new look inspired by the stunning Acura Type S Concept that debuted at Monterey Car Week last year. And now we have more proof that the new TLX will get the Type S treatment. As discovered by GVForums, Honda submitted a trademark for "TLX Type S" to the United States Patent and Trademark Office on March 30, so it's only a matter of time before the high-performance luxury sedan makes its world debut. Acura Acura Sedans may not be as popular as they used to be, but there's a lot to get excited about the Acura TLX Type S. Reports suggest it will utilize a new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that could produce over 350 horsepower to rival the BMW M340i, Audi S4, and Mercedes-AMG C43. This would be a significant improvement over the V6 that powers the current TLX, which has 290 hp. This will be the first time Acura has used the Type S name since the TL Type S sedan in 2008. Slotting below the Type S, the regular TLX will use the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in the Acura RDX that produces 272 hp. Acura Acura We also won't be complaining if the new TLX closely resembles the Type S Concept's sporty styling. Sadly, we don't have a reveal date for the Acura TLX Type S yet. However, an Acura spokesperson recently confirmed to CarBuzz an all-new model that was originally scheduled to break cover at the 2020 New York Auto Show will be unveiled online. Acura confirmed it "should have more to share on those plans in the weeks ahead."
