This 500-HP Viper-Powered Dodge Ram SRT-10 Is Extra Special

Apr. 18, 2020 5:10 PM ET by Jay Traugott Auctions / 21 Comments A pickup with a Viper V10 and ridiculously low mileage. High-performance pickup trucks are less common than hardcore off-road trucks. Take the Ford F-150 Raptor, for example. It's a huge seller and yet there's currently no F-150 Lighting. As much as we'd love to see the latter happen, those who desire a proper muscle truck will either have to turn to the aftermarket or seek something used. Fortunately, there are plenty of options for both but an example of one of our all-time favorite muscle trucks is currently up for auction and it's literally brand new. This stock 2006 Dodge Ram SRT-10 has only 310 miles on its odometer and appears to be in perfect condition inside and out. But that's not the only reason why it's an amazing find, which is part of Mecum Auction's Indy 500 event this June. Power comes from an 8.3-liter V10 engine good for 500 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque. If this engine sounds familiar to you then that's because it should. This is, in fact, the same V10 used in the Dodge Viper. Yes, a pickup truck with a Viper engine. How could you possibly go wrong? Mecum Auctions Mecum Auctions Mecum Auctions And it gets even better. Instead of the optional four-speed automatic slushbox, this example has a Borg-Warner six-speed gearbox sending all that power to the rear wheels. The Regular Cab tips the scales at a hefty 5,130 pounds, but it can still accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and hits a top speed of 154 mph. A Quad Cab was also offered but it was heavier and slightly slower. Fuel economy? Terrible, quite frankly. The EPA rated this sucker at 9/15 mpg city/highway. But with gas under a dollar a gallon in some states, do you really care? Also take note of the rear spoiler and tonneau cover, two features that were only installed in only about half of these trucks, due to manufacturing problems. And yes, the rear spoiler was functional, helping with airflow and providing a reduction in drag and lift.
Mecum Auctions Mecum Auctions Mecum Auctions The interior is fairly Spartan compared to the abundance of luxury in today's Ram 1500, though there are Infinity speakers, LED Radio with a CD player, and a 10-inch woofer mounted between the seats. There are also some SRT-10 logos and, like in the Dodge Viper, a red starter button on the dash. And yes, that's a Hurst shift lever complete with a Viper shift knob. There are even aluminum pedals. Dodge also recalibrated the speedometer and tachometer to match the truck's improved performance. So, how much for a Viper-powered pickup truck? Prices vary according to mileage. For example, a Ram SRT-10 with less than 30,000 miles can probably be found in the $30,000 range. Considering this one is literally brand new with extremely low mileage, we wouldn't be surprised to see it go for nearly double that. It'd still be a bargain.
