Ford' s New Jeep Cherokee Fighter Already Has A Problem

Aside from the reborn Ford Bronco, the first-ever Ford Bronco Sport is the other highly anticipated new vehicle to be coming from the Detroit automaker in the near future. And like the bigger and more off-road capable Bronco, the Escape-based Bronco Sport's debut is also delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Not only that, but its initial production start has also apparently been delayed as well. Automotive News has learned that the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport was originally scheduled to begin production at the automaker's Hermosillo, Mexico manufacturing facility on July 13. But like all other car factories in North America at present, this one has been idled as well. Although Ford has not made this news official just yet, suppliers apparently tipped off the publication regarding the expected delay. Bronco Sport Forum Bronco Sport Forum Bronco Sport Forum Assuming this information is correct, Ford has opted to push back Bronco Sport production by two months, with the first units now set to roll off the line on September 7. Of course, this plan could change given the circumstances. Also, Ford has not even announced the Bronco Sport's official debut date but this will still likely happen before the Bronco itself premieres. We therefore wouldn't be surprised to see the Bronco Sport for the first time at the 2020 New York Auto Show, now rescheduled from August 28 to September 6. Then again, the COVID-19 epicenter in the US is New York City and the rest of the state, so this year's show's future will entirely depend on whether government and health officials can contain the pandemic by that time. Both vehicles are very important for the Blue Oval's bottom line, especially since it decided to discontinue traditional cars like the Ford Fiesta, Focus, and Fusion in favor of more SUVs and crossovers. All-electric vehicles like the new Ford Mustang Mach-E are also part of this plan, but the Bronco and Bronco Sport will immediately have far greater appeal.
