LEAKED New BMW 5-Series Shown In Detail

May. 16, 2020 6:06 AM ET by Aaron Brzozowski Leaked / 20 Comments BMW's mid-size premium sedan is looking svelte. Still a few years out from a complete redesign, the BMW 5-Series is due for a mid-cycle refresh soon. Just this week, BMW released a teaser image of the facelifted 5er, along with a promise to reveal the new sedan within the next two weeks. But why wait when you can see the tweaked premium German sedan right now? A new batch of leaked photos, shared by cochespias on Instagram, showcase the updated BMW 5-Series's fresh face and hindquarters, along with detailed shots of the lights, fascias, grilles, and even the wheels. It's not our first look at the updated BMW 5-Series, but it's by far the most thorough.

You won't hear us argue that the current BMW 5-Series is by any means a bad-looking car, but if these photos make one thing clear, it's that the post-revision version will be sharper, cleaner, and more well-defined. Even the wheels look great, from the most basic units to the scant, sultry design that appears destined for the facelifted M Sport model.
BMW BMW cochespias via Instagram The facelifted BMW 5-Series - or "LCI," which stands for "Life-Cycle Impulse" - will debut some time before the end of the month, most likely in a remote live-streamed event. It will probably be some months after that we're finally introduced to the new BMW M5, which will be joined by a hot new M5 CS model probably by the end of the year. Mechanically, not much is expected to change for the 2021 BMW 5er, meaning we can look forward to the same excellent turbocharged inline four- and six-cylinder engines, with plenty of hybrid options available.
