Despite some momentum setbacks due to the coronavirus pandemic and a very public standoff to get its Fremont, California factory back up and running, Tesla is working fast to regain as much lost time as possible over the past couple of months. As the Fremont factory continues to churn out vehicles, the delivery timeline for those who ordered a new Tesla Model 3 has changed from 4-8 weeks to 5-7 weeks. However, Electrek has also learned that even though the Tesla Model Y didn't previously even have a delivery timeline prior to the shutdown, it was later set at 8-12 weeks for new orders when production started again. But here's where it gets interesting. Tesla Tesla Tesla It's been only two weeks since the factory restart and, for some unknown reason, Tesla has now reduced the delivery timeline for Model Y orders to just 4-8 weeks. Given the fact this is a brand new vehicle that's been gathering reservations for over a year, the move does come as a surprise. Aside from satisfying anxious customers, there's likely another reason why Model Y production has suddenly been cranked up. The theory is that because Tesla used the shutdown time to fully prepare the Model Y production line, everything is now in place. In addition, it's learned from previous launches, mainly the troubled Model 3 launch, of what not to do for a new mass-market vehicle. Tesla Tesla Tesla Another potential element to this is the rumor that some Model Y customers delayed or outright canceled their undelivered orders due to economic conditions caused by the pandemic. As a result, Tesla might now have extra Model Ys ready to be built which it wants to sell as quickly as possible. Regardless of why there's suddenly a faster Model Y delivery time in the US, the fact is Tesla appears to have resolved past production issues for good. It's learned from its mistakes.
